Privacy Statement

Last updated: 10 July 2026

RealQuill (operated by WovenBytes) is a tool for writing books. Your manuscripts are the most personal thing you'll keep here, and this statement explains — plainly — what we collect, what we do and don't do with it, and the controls you have. If anything here is unclear, write to us at privacy@realquill.com.

What we collect

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. By default, on every tier, we do not train AI models on your content — this is opt-in only and revocable at any time. The AI providers that process your text and images to generate drafts, edits, and pictures do so under contracts that prohibit training on your content (a no-train / zero-retention data-processing commitment); they process it only to return a result to you. Your writing is never shown to other users unless you explicitly share it.

The one exception is entirely your choice: an optional, clearly-labeled “Contribute & Earn” program (coming later) will let you choose to share drafts and AI interactions to help improve our models in exchange for monthly credit rewards. It is off by default, never required to use RealQuill on any tier, and you can turn it off again at any time.

How we use what we collect

Only to operate the Service: to authenticate you, store and process your writing, generate AI drafts, edits, and images at your request, meter and bill credits, produce your exports, send the operational and (if you opt in) notification emails described below, and keep the Service secure. Our lawful bases are performance of our contract with you (running the Service) and your consent (optional cookies and optional notification emails).

Who processes your data (sub-processors)

We rely on a small set of vetted providers, each acting on our instructions under a data-processing agreement:

Cookies

We set a single essential session cookie to keep you signed in — that's what the Service needs to work, and it's the only cookie we set by default. Any optional cookie (such as analytics) is set only if you accept it in the banner; if you decline, only the essential session cookie remains. You can change your choice at any time.

Your rights & controls

Wherever you live, you have real, self-service control over your data in the app:

If you are in the EEA, UK, or a comparable jurisdiction (GDPR), you also have the rights to access, rectify, erase, port, and restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent — most of which the Export and Delete tools satisfy directly. If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA), you have the rights to know what we collect, to delete it, and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” — and we do not sell or share your personal information. To exercise any right we haven't already put in your hands, or to appeal a decision, email privacy@realquill.com; we respond within the period the applicable law requires, and we won't discriminate against you for exercising a right.

Retention

We keep your content until you delete it or close your account, after which it is removed from active systems and ages out of routine backups on our normal backup cycle. Minimal billing and transaction records are retained, in anonymized or de-identified form where possible, for as long as tax and accounting law requires.

Security

Access is authenticated through your identity provider; content is stored with access controls and versioning, and transmitted over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure — please keep your own copies of work that matters to you (the Export tool makes this a one-click habit).

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes to this statement

If we make a material change we'll post the revised statement here with a new “last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
